Souvlaki is a very popular Greek street food made of small pieces of meat grilled on a skewer.
It can be served in a pita wrap with garnishes and sauce or on a dinner plate. Souvlaki is absolutely delicious with fried potatoes! :)
Souvlaki is usually made of pork, but chicken or lamb may also be used.
The meat is first marinated for 4-6 hours or over night. The marinade is a very flavored mixture of olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and oregano

I prefer chicken souvlaki because chicken is a proper meat for kids. We served these delicious Souvlaki in our own way, with red cabbage salad and homemade braided bread :)

Ingredients for chicken Souvlaki recipe (5 pieces)

- 1kg boneless chicken breast
- 4 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 2 garlic cloves
- 2 teaspoons dry oregano
- salt and pepper to taste

How to make chicken Souvlaki (Greek chicken skewers)

Start by preparing the marinade. Whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, 2 garlic cloves (crushed), oregano, salt and pepper.
Cut the chicken breast into 2-3 cm pieces and put them into a medium bowl.

Add the marinade and mix well.
Cover with plastic wrap an put in the refrigerator for 4 to 6 hours o over night.
To assemble the chicken Souvlaki, remove the chicken from the marinade and thread the chicken pieces onto skewers.
Grill skewers for 8-10 minutes, turning on each side, until browned and cooked through.
Serve Souvlaki with pita and Tzatziki, with baked potatoes with mushrooms or with your favorite side dish and/ or salad.
